The change to UPS systems began in the early 1970s with the acquisition of Bardic, a DC rectifier and emergency lighting company, and Transipak, an AC industrial system manufacturer. These acquisitions formed the new companies Chloride Bardic and Chloride Transipak, based in Northam and Hastings, respectively.
In the late 1970s, with the market changing and the focus of the Group shifting from batteries to electronics, these two companies were merged and moved to a factory in Eastleigh. The new company was called Chloride Standby Systems Ltd and, later, Chloride Power Electronics. Over the next two decades the Company evolved, acquiring further companies, extending the product range and relocating the manufacturing to more suitable sites. |
In 2000 Chloride Group PLC announced the completion of its planned transition into a pure power protection business with the sale of its remaining satellite companies. This was soon followed by the move of Chloride Power Electronics, now trading under the name Chloride Power Protection, into a new site in Southampton, giving excellent facilities for customer training and providing an enhanced LIFE.net monitoring centre.
To ensure that Chloride could offer its customers exceptional service it acquired Continuous Power International in 2004. This multi-vendor UPS service company gave Chloride the ability to service and maintain virtually all of the units in our customers' buildings through its own, in-house service team.
The generator specialists, Harath, were acquired in 2005 to form Chloride Harath, with the largest critical power service team in the country, enabling Chloride Power Protection to extend its offering to include integrated power solutions.
Progress was made in the oil and gas industry with the acquisition of Masterpower in early 2007. This strategic move enhanced Chloride's position as the leading industrial UPS provider in Europe.
In late 2007 the Group decided to bring all of the different companies under the one name, Chloride; a world leader and specialist provider of critical power solutions and services.
