Data centers
A data center is an organization's most valuable asset. As such it needs to be protected from the unreliability of the electricity supply in Australia.
In data centers three key considerations are:
- Availability
- Physical space
- Energy consumption
Availability
Depending on a data center's Tier standard there should be an availability of somewhere between three and five nines (an availability of five nines means that there is power 99.999% of the time). Downtime really is not an option. In a well-designed system with excellent maintance and using high-quality UPS, this sort of availability can be achieved.
Physical space
As the available space for data centers is used up, it is becoming increasingly important to make the most of the space available. Virtualization of servers makes a big difference, but you also need UPS with small footprints to avoid wasting space. The 70-NET, 80-NET and 90-NET UPS systems have some of the smallest footprints in the industry.
Energy consumption
As power demand outstrips supply and energy costs rocket, it is vital to use only equipment that gives a good conversion rating. Increasing legislative requirements against wasteful energy practices mean 'green' products, designed to minimize environmental impact, are important in energy protection systems. Using the revolutionary new Trinergy minimizes energy wastage and provides the technology of the future giving maximum protection with minimum losses.
