Chloride's story - from batteries to UPS

Chloride was first established over 100 years ago. Chloride enjoyed a lengthy period as a successful battery manufacturer and acquired its first power protection business in the 1970s. Chloride has been exclusively focused as a secure power solutions provider since 2000.

 

October 2007

Chloride announces a joint venture with Phoenixtec Power Company, Taiwan, for production of mid-to-large systems in Shenzhen, China.

Chloride confirms the increased investment in DB Power Electronics in India from 20% to 32%.

New premises opened in Bedford, UK, to support the critical power services business.

Chloride announces an agreement with IdaTech, LLC, a global fuel cell solutions developer and manufacturer, to market and sell fuel cell backup power systems throughout Europe and Northern Africa.

Chloride acquires AST Electronique Services, strengthening Chloride’s technical and sales resources in France, and Ascor Power Systems, Singapore, as the platform for expansion in South East Asia.

Chloride announces the acquisition of Masterpower Electronics Limited in the UK to enhance Chloride’s leading position in the European market for industrial power protection solutions, and particularly in the energy sectors.

Chloride completes the acquisition of Cener, a leading critical power protection company in Spain, enhancing Chloride’s position as a market leader in Spain.

July 2006

Chloride establishes a sales and service operation in Poland to drive expansion in Eastern Europe.

June 2005

Chloride forms a strategic alliance with DB Power Electronics in India, acquiring a 10% equity stake in the business, with options to acquire a controlling interest over time. This alliance forms a platform to develop sales of Chloride’s secure power solutions in the dynamic Indian market.

Chloride completes the acquisition of Harath, a leading supplier of critical power protection services in the UK. The acquisition is an important step in Chloride’s strategy to grow its service business, expand and improve the solutions offering in the UK, and to create the business model for developing integrated critical power protection businesses in other geographic markets.

June 2003

Chloride announces the launch of LIFE.net, a unique real-time, tele-diagnostic system. LIFE.net enables the remote monitoring and management of UPS and power distributing systems, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

September 2002

Chloride progresses supply chain rationalisation. Production is transferred to a high quality Far Eastern supplier.

August 2002

Chloride announces an investment programme in research and development in order to access the important US power protection marketplace for 3 phase UPS.

March 2002

Common technology platform launched with the implementation of CU4 digital control for Chloride UPS and Industrial Power Protection systems.

January 2002

Creation of Chloride UPS Systems which consolidates the R & D assembly and test, logistics, and international sales and marketing functions of Chloride's UPS operations in Italy and Germany.

December 2001

Acquisition of Masterfix, Brazil announced. This small acquisition will support the Company's growing business in Brazil.

Acquisition of Continuous Power International (CPI) announced. CPI is a third party service business in the UK which will supply a comprehensive service offering to our UK customers.

New premises opened in Southampton, UK, to improve facilities for customer training and provide an enhanced LIFE monitoring centre.

Chloride announces the completion of its planned transition into a pure Secure Power business with the sale of its UK Emergency Lighting, Safety Systems and Security business (Chloride Safety Systems Ltd) to Caradon plc.

Investment programme completed to provide state of the art research and development and customer training facilities together with an expansion of the assembly, test and quality control capability in Bologna, Italy.

Chloride announces an agreement to sell its US emergency lighting business, Chloride Systems, to Genlyte Thomas LLC.

Chloride announces the acquisition of Masterguard, the power protection division of Siemens AG. This acquisition consolidated the Group’s pan-European capability by giving it a market leadership position in Europe’s largest power protection market, Germany, and in the growing Turkish market.

October 1999

Chloride announces acquisition of Melbourne based Hytek Vital Energy, consolidating the Company's position as market leader in Australia.

July 1999

Chloride appoints first distributor in mainland China, providing a vital introduction into the fast growing Chinese market.

March 1999

Acquisition of Electronicas BOAR SA, an important acquisition strengthening the existing UPS business in Spain.
