Chloride takes a lead in energy efficiency

Chloride is the first UPS Company to put its name to the EU Code of Conduct for Energy Efficiency and Quality of AC Uninterruptible Power Systems - UPS. This standby power initiative applies to three-phase UPS equipment above 10kVA and came into effect on 1st January 2008. Its aim is to minimise energy consumption (kWh) in Europe by maximising the energy efficiency of UPS.

Signatories to the Code undertake to make every reasonable effort to achieve specified energy efficiency targets for new equipment. They must also encourage engineers and operators to adopt energy efficient practises and provide the European Commission with annual reports on the energy efficiency of the equipment covered by the Code of Conduct. This applies to all products which it sold into EU and EFTA countries in the preceding 12 months

Demands for environmentally friendly products and services are constantly increasing and, in signing up, Chloride has committed itself to meeting these challenges. Chloride has been developing ever ‘greener’ systems for some years and its recent system introductions are already at the forefront of energy efficiency. The high power 70-NET, 80-NET and 90-NET UPS families have ‘Power Saver’ or ’Eco' modes to maximise power savings and the transformer-free 80-NET has exceptional efficiency to reduce power consumption. Chloride’s new Power Lan Green product range has replaced the existing Power Lan 5-7 kVA range. Available in 5 kVA and 7 kVA ratings with rack and tower versions, Power Lan Green provides several exclusive features that guarantee maximum protection and reliability to the load protected. This makes it ideal for finance, VoIP, medical and transportation applications.

Signing the Code of Conduct is further assurance that Chloride will continue to minimise the energy consumption of its UPS and increase levels of efficiency. Periodic audits conducted by the European Commission will confirm that the Code’s energy target levels are being met.

The initiatives that Chloride is taking to become more environmentally friendly are in tune with the ever increasing global awareness of the need to conserve energy.

President of Chloride UPS Systems, Lamberto Tassara, recently commented; “the environment is a resource that must be respected and nurtured. I’m proud to be part of a company where environmental issues and the sustainability of our actions are top priority. By actively making changes to reduce energy consumption, Chloride is continuing to show its commitment to helping the environment and to promoting energy efficiency.”
